How do you use a ‘RAM Disk’ for gaming?

I heard that with the amount of RAM that was in the machine “you could play games in a ‘RAM Disk‘ – that should speed things up a bit”. How do you create a RAM Disk and how do you play a game within one?

Basically setting up a RAM drive sets aside a specified portion of your RAM to act as a drive. The bad part about using RAM as a drive is that the contents of the drive are completely lost once the system is restarted or powered down. There are some RAMDisk softwares can save the the contents of the drive as a image file every minitue.

For gaming it would involve:

1. setting up the ram drive to the correct size for the game your going to install (enough space for the game and yet still leaving enough for the system to run on).
2. Then run the install routine for the game and install to the RAM drive .
3. Then run the game from the RAM drive.

GiliSoft RAMDisk appears like a physical hard disk to the operating system and programs. You choose its size (depending on the amount of RAM in your system), drive letter, and file system. You can copy, move and delete files on it. Like a physical disk, a RAM disk can also be shared so as to be accessed by other computers on a network!
