How to Use GiliSoft MarkEase on Windows

Prepare the Source and Edited Copy

1. Keep the best source image

   Open GiliSoft MarkEase for Windows and keep an untouched original. Work from the highest-quality source available rather than a repeatedly compressed edited copy.

2. Define what should change

   Identify the visible date, text, logo, or object. Check nearby faces, product edges, lines, and patterns, then decide whether the final photo also needs cropping, a new mark, or a filter.

3. Keep a separate edited destination

   Plan a new filename or output folder before export. Keep the source available until the repaired photo and the saved copy have been reviewed.

Choose Repair, Smaller Passes, or Cropping

1. Decide whether the full composition should stay

   Use Remove when the mark should be repaired while keeping the frame. Consider Crop for an edge mark only when discarding that part of the photo will not cut away required content.

2. Choose a region size that suits the background

   Use a close selection for a compact date or logo. For a mark crossing a strong edge, texture, or several different backgrounds, work in smaller regions and review each pass.

3. Compare the result before continuing

   Inspect the selected repair at 1:1 or 100% zoom. Undo a weak edit and try a tighter selection or another mode before exporting.

Repair estimates replacement detail in the selected area; it does not reveal the exact original pixels that were hidden under a mark.

Remove a Visible Date Stamp Without Cropping

1. Open the photo and choose Remove

   Use Add File(s) or drag the picture into MarkEase, select it in the image list, and open Remove.

2. Select the entire visible date

   Zoom in and use a rectangular, brush, or polygon selection that covers the digits and any visible shadow or outline. Keep adjacent subjects and unnecessary background outside the mask.

3. Repair, compare, and export a new copy

   Choose a repair mode and select Remove. Inspect the boundary at full size, refine if needed, and use Export to save a new image without cropping the composition.

This removes the date visible in the picture, not a separate EXIF capture-date field. Use Crop instead only when you intend to discard the edge area.

Remove a Logo, Text, or Unwanted Object

1. Choose the active image and the cleanup area

   Open Remove and identify the complete logo, text, or small unwanted object, including its visible edge or shadow.

2. Select closely around the unwanted detail

   Use the rectangle, brush, or polygon tool suited to the outline. Keep important nearby subjects outside the mask, and split a complex cleanup into smaller passes where useful.

3. Apply a mode and check the surrounding image

   Select Remove, inspect the repaired region and nearby lines or textures, and undo and refine a weak result. Export a new copy after checking the complete photo.

The Remove workspace shows the selection tools and four repair modes. Use the text or logo task when you want to add a new mark instead.

Choose a Selection Tool

1. Zoom to the detail you need to select

   Open Remove and use the zoom controls or 1:1 to inspect the outline. Confirm the intended image is selected in the left list.

2. Choose the matching selection shape

   Use a rectangle for a compact text block, a brush for small or irregular areas, or a polygon-style selection for a controlled outline. Cover the complete unwanted mark rather than a broad patch of surrounding photo.

3. Review the mask before a manual repair

   Leave Automatically remove the selection unchecked while testing. Inspect the mask, choose the mode, and use Remove when the selected region is ready.

See the tools in the loaded Remove workspace. A selection is the region to reconstruct; it is not a crop boundary.

Refine a Selection or Redo a Weak Repair

1. Inspect the weak area at full size

   Check for leftover mark edges, blur, repeated texture, or a disturbed outline using 1:1 or 100% zoom.

2. Return to a useful source state

   If the repair already damaged the region, use the undo control before trying another pass. Redraw a tighter mask or clean separate parts instead of repeatedly processing the same blurred patch.

3. Change one part of the setup and compare

   Try another repair mode or a smaller selected region. Recheck the joins into the surrounding photo and keep the better result before moving to the next mark or exporting.

Compare the Four Repair Modes

1. Keep the source area comparable

   Use the same source photo and a close selection. Undo a trial result before comparing another mode so the next test does not start from an already altered patch.

2. Choose and run the mode

   Compare Smooth Filling, Edge Filling, Texture Repair, or AI Repair, then select Remove. Use the options below as starting comparisons, not a guarantee for every background.

3. Inspect the boundary and retained detail

   Check the repaired region at full size for soft detail, repeated patterns, broken lines, or color differences. Refine the mask and use the result that best fits the current photo.

Smooth Filling

Try a compact mark over a relatively even background. Check that the transition into the surrounding photo does not stand out.

Edge Filling

Compare this option near an outline or boundary. Inspect nearby lines and corners after the repair.

Texture Repair

Compare on fabric, pavement, or another textured background. Watch for repeated details or a patch that no longer matches its surroundings.

AI Repair

Compare another treatment for the selected region. Review its result and the requirements shown by the selected feature before applying it across a photo set.

Control Automatic Selection Removal

1. Review one manual removal first

   With Automatically remove the selection unchecked, choose a mode, select a small test area, and click Remove. Confirm that the mode and selection suit this image.

2. Enable the selection-triggered option when useful

   Check Automatically remove the selection for the active photo and review the result after each new selection. Keep important nearby detail outside the mask.

3. Return to manual control when the mask needs inspection

   Clear the option if you want to check the region before processing. Inspect each repaired area, use undo where needed, and do not treat this checkbox as automatic watermark detection or a shared mask for every photo.

Work Through Several Photos

1. Add the set and identify the active photo

   Use Add File(s) to add several images and choose the image being edited in the left list. Start with a representative source.

2. Review the mask and repair for each photo

   Group similar jobs, but check dimensions, stamp position, and background detail on each image. A mark in the same corner does not guarantee the same selection will fit every source.

3. Export and verify the individual outputs

   Complete and inspect one exported copy before continuing through the set. Check filenames, orientation, dimensions, and repaired detail, and keep originals separate from finished images.

Crop the Photo and Review Its Dimensions

1. Open Crop and set the retained frame

   Choose Crop and drag the crop boundary around the content to keep. Leave important faces, text, and product edges inside that boundary.

2. Review ratio and dimensions

   Check the aspect-ratio menu, New width, and New height. Use Inverse proportions when the crop frame's proportions need to be swapped.

3. Apply the crop and inspect the frame

   Select the Crop button and review all four edges before exporting. Cropping removes image area; use a repair workflow instead when the full composition must stay.

Rotate or Flip the Photo

1. Review the active photo's orientation

   Confirm the correct image is active and inspect text, horizons, and other details that make its intended orientation clear.

2. Use the top editing-toolbar controls

   Choose the rotation or flip icon that matches the required change. Check the preview immediately and use undo if the direction or reflection is wrong.

3. Inspect the complete result before export

   Review the frame after any cropping and confirm text is not unintentionally mirrored. Export a new copy and reopen it to verify the saved orientation.

The orientation controls are in the top editing toolbar shown in the Crop workspace, separate from the Inverse proportions option for the crop frame.

Add Arrows, Lines, and Shape Callouts

1. Choose a shape in Shapes

   Open Shapes and select a line, curve, rectangle, ellipse, or arrow for the intended callout.

2. Set the appearance and draw the callout

   Choose Thickness and Color, then draw over the relevant part of the photo. Use enough contrast and thickness for the expected display size.

3. Check placement and saved readability

   Keep the callout clear of required detail unless it is marking that detail directly. Export a new copy and inspect the line and color at the final viewing size.

Compare Filters and Magic Enhance

1. Open Filter after reviewing the cleanup

   Choose Filter and use No Filter as a baseline. Check the repaired region before an overall look makes differences harder to judge.

2. Compare the desired look and Magic Enhance

   Choose a filter or compare Magic Enhance. Review the main subject, skin tones, white areas, text, and product colors.

3. Keep the useful result and verify the output

   Return to No Filter if the appearance is not suitable, and review the Magic Enhance state separately. Export a new copy and compare the saved photo with the source.

Add a Text Watermark

1. Open Watermark and choose Text

   Select Watermark > Text to create a written mark for the active photo.

2. Set the wording and text appearance

   Enter the intended visible wording in the text dialog and review Font, color, and Transparency. Compare Shadow, Glow, and Stroke where they improve readability.

3. Confirm and check the text on the photo

   Select OK, inspect the wording against the actual image, and use Modify if it needs revision. Export a new copy after checking readability at the intended display size.

Add a Logo Watermark

1. Choose the separate Logo entry

   Open Watermark and select Logo, not Text, for an image mark.

2. Load and position the logo

   Choose the logo image through the displayed workflow and review its size and position on the photo using the controls offered by that dialog. Keep the important subject readable.

3. Confirm and inspect the exported copy

   Confirm the mark, review it on the actual photo, and use Modify if needed. Export a new copy and inspect the logo's edges and appearance outside MarkEase.

Position, Rotate, or Tile a Text Watermark

1. Open the text watermark's settings

   Create a Text watermark or select its entry and choose Modify.

2. Set position, offsets, and rotation

   Choose a cell in the Position grid, refine X - Offset and Y - Offset, and review Angle. Use Tile only when repeated marks suit the intended photo.

3. Check the actual image after OK

   Confirm with OK and review the mark across light and dark areas. Check that rotation, offsets, or tiling have not covered required content, then inspect the exported photo.

These controls are visible in the text watermark dialog. Review the chosen settings for each image rather than assuming a position fits every photo.

Modify or Delete a Watermark Entry

1. Select the new mark in the Watermark list

   Open Watermark and identify the text or logo entry added to the current photo.

2. Modify the entry or remove the unwanted mark

   Use Modify to edit the selected entry, then confirm the revised settings. Use Delete when that added entry is no longer wanted.

3. Review the photo before Export

   Check the remaining text or logos and the surrounding subject, then export a new copy. Deleting an entry in this list is different from repairing a mark already embedded in the source picture; use Remove for that task.

Check the Exported Photo and Image Quality

1. Review the complete photo before Export

   Inspect the repaired region at full size, then check the entire frame, orientation, new text, logos, shapes, and filter appearance.

2. Save a separate finished copy

   Use Export and choose the available output settings and a new filename or destination. Preserve dimensions unless a crop or other change is intended, and retain the original.

3. Open the saved file outside MarkEase

   Check the actual output format, dimensions, repaired detail, edges, and any needed transparency. Keep both source and output so future changes do not depend on a repeatedly compressed edited copy.

Repaired detail

Look for remnants of the date or logo, repeated patterns, color changes, and softened edges.

Dimensions and orientation

Confirm that the image was not cropped, rotated, or resized unintentionally.

New marks and callouts

Check text, logo placement, line thickness, and readability at the intended display size.

Saved output

Open the exported file outside MarkEase and confirm the format, location, detail, and any transparency that matters to the job.
